A tweet from Walt Disney World Today celebrates the opening of the Asia component of the Animal Kingdom theme park, on this day in 1999: .
Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite theme parks; the Asia part is especially fun because it contains Everest, Kali River Rapids, and the Yak and Yeti restaurant!
Disney designer Joe Rohde comments on Instagram about Expedition Everest’s (the roller coaster in Animal Kingdom) design and the design of the surrounding buildings. Apparently the roller coaster was originally going to be themed around Bhutan instead of the (current) Nepal-ese style theme.
