The 10 Most Romantic Places in the World

Disney World, that is

With more than 40 square miles of land, you better believe that there are a lot more than ten romantic places in Walt Disney World. In coming up with our list we tried to get a little bit of everything. From the lavish eateries to the freebie diversions. Walt Disney is for everyone -- and that includes those in love.

1. Victoria & Albert's - You will find Disney's ritziest eats at this Grand Floridian restaurant. It's one of the few places in Disney World in which dressing up is a given. You will pay. Last I checked it was $90 per guest -- and another $45 if you go with their suggested wine pairings. Yet the intimate setting and elegant menu may be enough to make you splurge for this romantic feast. The menu changes daily as you choose between appetizers, entrees and dreamy desserts. Bonus keepsake - you get a personalized menu to keep when you go. The fare is exotic. I recall downing "Consomme de Squaw" without questioning what it was -- only to eventually find out that squaw is pigeon. Ouch. It was good all the same. While the eats are fancy the limited menu mixes up various entrees -- beef, poultry, seafood -- so you will find something to your liking. After dinner, head out to the back of the hotel and walk around. Check out the wedding pavillion if you feel daring.

2. IllumiNations Cruise - Another choice that isn't for the spendthrift, for $180 (or $120 for a more traditional pontoon boat) you can rent out a boat with a driver to circle around the park property and give you a unique perspective of EPCOT's IllumiNations show at 9pm -- under the bridge and on the lake itself! While the boats seat more passengers, the fee is for the entire ship -- so you know that it will be just you and that special person in your life -- and the boat's captain of course. The boats leave from the Yacht and Beach Club Marina and must be reserved 90 days in advance.

3. World Showcase - EPCOT's collection of countries in the back of the park shout amore. Yes, every country is fronted by the same lake -- with a spectacular fireworks and light show at 9pm nightly. Yes, the restaurants at Epcot Center are amazing. While France and Italy may appear like the ideal romantic dining grounds, don't deny yourself other country digs. Mexico's pyramid-enclosed restaurant may very well be the most romantic in the sense of dim-lit dining, serene rolling water and the faux sky. And Canada houses the best steakhouse that you will ever find in a theme park. Germany is festive. Norway is a bold buffet. Morocco offers intrigue. Japan puts up exhibition tableside cooking. It's a shame you can only eat so much. However, just walking through the various countries, especially places like the courtyard and hedge maze behind England, love is in the air.

4. Parasailing - Tandem parasailing -- or even two solo flights will provide you with a unique view of Disney World's property. Leaving from the Contemporary Hotel pier, you will get an eagle's eye view of the Magic Kingdom as you rise hundreds of feet in the air. Yes, it's safe. It's also not cheap. The tandem flight will run you between $135 and $155 (depending on how high and how long you want to be up there). No, it's not as scary as it seems. Even if you're afraid of heights you would be surprised how liberating it feels -- and how smooth the entire experience actually is.

5. Winter Summerland - You may not associate miniature golf with budding romance, but give it a putt and see. Next to Typhoon Lagoon, this pair of putt-putt courses plays on a holiday theme. You have the summer and winter courses yet classy holiday tunes are playing and you also have some clever obstacles like water-spitting fish and snowmen. Go at night when all of the elements come together to create a romantic outing.

6. The Boardwalk - Disney has a lot of beautiful hotels. From the tiki-lit backways at the Polynesian to the rustic splendor of Wilderness Lodge, as big as Disney World may be there are areas where you truly can get away. Boardwalk isn't one of those places. But, that's the point. You have a charming old-style boardwalk filled with cozy restaurants and cute shops and various kiosks hosting everything from ice cream to carnival games. Check out Spoodles if you want something off the beaten path -- yet, yes, that beaten path -- you can also walk around to Yacht and Beach Club for dessert at Beaches and Cream, or go all the way to the back entrance of EPCOT in time for IllumiNations. Even better, a free shuttle boat can take you to all of these places, including MGM to catch some late night thrill rides or the Fantasmic show.

7. Magic Kingdom - It is Disney's most popular theme park. It is crawling with tens of thousands of people. Romantic? You bet. How can you deny the snuggling charm of hitting Haunted Mansion at night or the dreamy mystery of Thunder Mountain Railroad after dark? Astro Orbiter is also an intimate hangout as you are tens of feet above everyone else in the park! While not as romantic as it used to be when it was less popular and you drank from pewter goblets, you can also eat in the Castle itself. Yet there are also a few pockets of tranquility. My favorite is at the Liberty Square entrance from Main Street. Off to either side you will find shady seating and there is a small counter serving up excellent cobbler a la modes and other baked treats. Riding the train at night or the riverboat during the day are other romantic diversions.

8. Pleasure Island - As the adults-only nightspot you figure this one would be a no-brainer. From dancing it up to the lastest dance hits at Mannequins to taking in some top-notch improv at Comedy Warehouse, you will definitely have stuff to do but is it all romantic? It will be if you enter the Adventurers Club. It's an eclectic place like no other. It's a two-story building themed to a 1937 explorers club. Themed actors will engage you in small talk and you never know when you may be invited to partake in secret live shows or be dazzled by the surrounding audioanimatronics. Not romantic in the traditional sense it is the kind of place that you will be left talking about when you go -- and that, yes, is romantic.

9. Watercraft - With the resort's many bodies of water you will find boat rental areas at most of the deluxe hotels -- as well as Downtown Disney. The more exciting option is the water sprite miniature speedboats. You will have to split up for this as a couple but it will be an exciting adventure as you travel at a healthy clip through the bodies of water that surround your resort of choice. Don't worry, you won't get lost. Don't worry, you HAVE to wear a floating vest. Don't worry, they have pros circling about to make sure no one gets stranded. If you want to go at a slower speed you can stay with your mate and hit the high seas on one of the many other watercraft devices that are available.

10. Lazy River - Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach are amazing water parks. Yet you can always take a break from the water slides and just lay low beachside -- or, better yet, hit the lazy rivers. Each park is encircled by a slow-floating path in about 3 feet of water. You hop on a tube and let the slow current take you. It will take you about half-an-hour to go full-circle though you can stop at various points -- or just keep going. You will also find raft rides where the two of you can ride together or even some tandem water slides built for two. Which park? Each also offers a cool romantic benefit. Blizzard Beach offers a skilift incline to get to the top of the more popular slides. Unfortunately, it's a 3-seater and they may have a single-rider share the trip up with you. At Typhoon Lagoon you have a unique, yet unfortunately brief, snorkeling experience. Either way, the only thing better than getting soaked together is drying off together.

Phew! So many parks to see. So many things to do. Who said having this much fun should be so much work? Well, the more you know, the better your experience. Your devotion today will be thanked by your family tomorrow.
