You lived through the movie, now try the ride itself! There are three perfect attractions in the Magic Kingdom. Along with Pirates of the Caribbean and Splash Mountain this flawless doom buggy ride through Master Gracey's manor is a visual masterpiece. From the pre-show where a rising roof reveals incrementally gruesome stretching paintings (and, yes, this is not an elevator as is the case in Disneyland -- it is only the roof that moves here) to the finale where one of three hitch-hiking ghosts are superimposed in your car the ride is proof eternal of Walt's genius. The most dramatic effect, that of the "swinging" wake, is achieved through the magician's optical illusion "Pepper's Ghost". All of the ghosts in that sequence, from the ballroom dancers to the duelers and chandelier habitants above are actually housed above and below your vehicle. With a glass partition, properly-lighted animatronic figures appear as transparent reflections in the ballroom itself. Time saving tip: Once you enter the mansion there are two stretching rooms, to the left and right of the aging painting. If you are sent to the left, position yourself to the first right panel. If you are sent to the right, head left. These are the panels that will open to the load area after the pre-show is complete.
The best place to enjoy Walt Disney World is by staying at one of the park's many onsite resort hotels which offer early entry into the parks and are available as value, moderate and deluxe lodging alternatives.
