EPCOT Center

Walt Disney himself had often referred to EPCOT, Environmental Prototype City (or Community) of Tomorrow. He envisioned a planned community with all the Pollyanna synergies that came along with it. Of course the EPCOT theme park that opened in 1982 is nothing at all like that. Disney's residential development, Celebration, may very well be a better fit for what Walt had first envisioned. That does not take away from EPCOT itself. The theme park is a high-tech celebration of educational wonder and global travel.

Part world's fair expo, part passport-free globetrotting, EPCOT is a mass of cluttered contrasts that work surprisingly well. When planning your visit, try to avoid visiting the park on Mondays and Fridays due to Surprise Mornings. The attraction heavy Futureworld typically opens at 9am with the country-laden World Showcase opening two hours later. They both close at the same time, shortly after 9pm presentation of the Illuminations extravaganza. As with all Disney parks, the unofficial open is actually at least a half-hour before the stated open so try to arrive at the parking lot shortly after 8am. Depending on where you park it may very well be quicker to walk to the park entrance rather than wait to board a parking lot tram.
