This is the place to hit first -- or last. The dawn and dusk expeditions have the shortest lines, and also have the best viewings as the animals are not looking to escape the blistering sun. You will board wide side-door loading jeeps and be driven, really, through animal habitats -- really. The ride can be bumpy but not unbearably so. This is your ideal morning spot, and you won't have to ask how to get there -- just follow the herd.
Because a lot of people head here early, if you get to the park any later than just a few minutes past the park opening do yourself a favor and grab a FastPass and hit the areas like Dinoland and Asia that do not form a crowd until later in the morning. More than 100 acres of the park are devoted to this attraction and the ride usually takes a little less than 20 minutes to navigate past the wide array of wildlife. At the end Disney lifts the reality with a staged chase for elephant poachers. Big Red has been shot and her baby, Little Red, has been captured. If the storyline feels disjointed, especially with the finale where after a quick-run through petty geysers you help trap the poachers and recover Little Red, you are not alone. Originally there was a bloodied, lifeless Big Red. It was more inspiring but it also drew many complaints and the mother elephant was removed altogether.
